Knowledge is important. Whether you want to start a business, grow a blog, land more clients, you need the right knowledge to achieve what you want.
But knowledge is only half the equation…
Let me explain
Recently I attended a barista course in Melbourne to learn to make great coffees, cappuccinos, macchiatos… (Yes, I love coffee a lot).
Before going to the training I watched a few videos on Youtube to get an overview of how to use a coffee machine, how to foam milk properly… The videos explained step-by-step the process of making coffee.
After watching the videos I had all the knowledge I needed to brew some good coffee drinks.
I thought: “Well, making coffee isn’t that complicated after all!“
But when I got to the training session, a weird thing happened…
Even if I learned all the steps to make a coffee and foam the milk, I wasn’t able to make a good one. I had the knowledge but my execution was bad. It was frustrating because I wasn’t able to get the results I wanted.
So I asked my teacher why my coffee drinks looked so bad and never tasted the same.
And he answered: “Simon, you have the knowledge to make a good coffee, now you need to implement what you know and practice. It takes time, be patient.”
So why am I telling you this story?
Well because I want you to understand that knowledge isn’t the only thing you need to succeed.
Reading hundreds of posts about how to drive more traffic to your site, won’t bring you more visitors to your site.
Buying books about the best site monetization strategies, won’t increase your revenue by 10X
Downloading an eBook about social medias strategies, won’t grow your audience
If you only consume content and never implement it, nothing will happen. You must TAKE ACTION to get results.
Sounds obvious right? And yet very few people do it.
I mean think about it.
When was the last time you learned something in a blog post, book or video and implemented what you learned right after?
If you don’t remember or if you don’t know, you are probably not executing enough.
So today I’m going to share with you 3 tips that will force you to systematically implement what you learn.
Use this New Mantra
Every time you want to take action and feel distracted, remind yourself this:
“The magic happens in the execution”
By repeating this sentence over and over again, you will fully absorb the concept and your execution will become automatic as a result.
Repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which, repeated frequently enough, becomes an automatic reflex
So make execution your new automatic reflex!
Create Action Time Blocks in your calendar
To get the habits of taking action, you can also create Action Time Blocks in your calendar.
An Action Time Block is a block of 2 – 3 hours during which you intensively take action and implement what you learn. It’s not a time during which you read blog posts, learn new strategies… it’s only a time to execute.
E.g: On Monday you learn various strategies on how to drive more traffic to your site. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday you use Time Blocks to implement everything you learned on Monday.
By integrating execution in your schedule, you will force yourself to implement what you learn.
Get an accountability partner
Getting an accountability partner is one of the best ways to force yourself to take action because he/she will help you keep committed and totally responsible for your actions.
By telling him/her what you want to accomplish, they will make sure that you do your work by tracking your progress regularly (every week, every month).
If you want more information about accountability partners I strongly recommend you to watch Sean McCabe’s excellent video. He explains exactly how to find the right accountability partners
