How to make money on the side with Fiverr

make money on the side with Fiverr

The web is full of wonderful websites to make money on the side, Fiverr is one of them!

Fiverr is an online platform that allows you to buy or sell any product or service for $5.

What’s awesome about this website is that ANYONE can sell ANYTHING. If you thought that you needed some kind of expertise, equipment or know-how to sell something, think twice! Today ANYONE can make money on the side with the web.

Your product or service (called Gigs) might be making videos for someone for example, translating documents, singing, making promotions…I even read once that a seller offered this:

I will post 50 flyers around Dawson College which has around 40,000 students in it only for $5

How much can you earn with Fiverr?

The amount of money you can make on the side really depends on the time you are willing to spend.

Some sellers consider Fiverr as a part time job and manage to make hundreds of dollars every months. But if you don’t have time you can still use 1 or 2 hours/week and still earn $30,$40/month…that’s really up to you.

What you will need:

  • An Internet connection
  • A free Fiverr account
  • A free Paypal account

The only difficulty with Fiverr is to get the trust of buyers so they can buy from you.

How Fiverr can help you reach financial independence:

If you decide to earn money with Fiverr I advise you to not spend all the money you earn on clothes, accessories, Ipod…

Actually if you do, you will be like 80% of the people out there who will never become financially independent because they prefer spending all their money in liabilities (things that doesn’t make money).

The income you make with Fiverr should go into your bank account until you have enough to make your first real investment.

How to create your account and start making money?

To create your account:

1) Go on Fiverr

2) Create an account

Click on join (top right corner)

3) Find a niche

Finding a niche means focusing on a part of the market with a product or service. To find a niche you need first to choose something that you enjoy doing. If for example you love drawing and you are good at it you can offer your buyers to draw something.

Another thing that might  be useful is to browse one or two page on Fiverr to see what’s trendy. So visit different sellers’ profile, look on the right side of their page and pay attention to the number of votes and the orders in Queue. The higher they are the hotter is the niche they work for.

One last tips is to go on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. Analyze what your network is looking for or what they need and you’ll get your niche!

4) Click start selling on the top menu

5) Click create a Gig

6) Fill in the “Create a New Gig Page”:

-GIG TITLE: You’d better find an excellent title because this is what your potential buyers will see first. You should take a look at this excellent article on how to write catchy headlines.

-CATEGORY: Choose the category of your product.

-GIG GALLERY: you want an eye-catching image that shows exactly what you offer. If you decide to use a photo of you, take a good one. Look friendly, happy, motivated, full of energy. I think that using your photo is certainly a good way to promote your product because people will see who’s actually behind this product. That makes them feel more secure and they will tend to trust you more (especially if you’re new and have no rate on your profile).

-DESCRIPTION: Describing your product and making it attractive is always challenging but it’s important so take your time to do it. Show them that working with you is absolutely fantastic. Explain the benefits of your product/service more that its feature.

-TAGS: for those who don’t know what it’s, it’s all the words that people would write on Fiverr’s browser if they were looking for your product. So for example if you offer a translation service you should write words that are related to the word translation.

-DURATION: is the time you think necessary to deliver to your buyer.

-INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUYER: if you have any specific requirement(s) to your buyer, let him/her know here.

7) Save your information and go on to the next page

In the next page they will propose you to upload a video of yourself to pitch your product or service. You should do it! As specified on Fiverr sellers who upload videos sell 220% more.

Note: You will receive your cheque on Paypal so make sure you have a Paypal account (if not create one here )

    Great post Simon!

Fiverr certainly is an amazing way to make money online – if you’re smart about it. It’s important to do tasks that you enjoy and can complete rather quickly. For a while I was trying to do article writing – but I realized that I was making about $4/hour. That was not fun!

However, I discovered that I could make a decent amount of money by offering to send out tweets. This took me about 5-10 minutes to earn $5. A MUCH better deal.

Finally, with nearly 4 million gigs listed on Fiverr, it can be difficult to get your gig noticed. That’s why I’ve launched – to help Fiverr buyers and sellers, and to promote some of the best gigs.

Great website man, I’ll be following you on Twitter and keeping an eye on how your progress continues.

Hi Simon! Just hopped on over from Twitter. Great article. I have wondered what was all involved in creating a gig in Fiverr and I like that you de-mystified it here. Feeling inspired to create a product that I can sell.

Thank you for this post. I love sharing this kind of information with my readers. Any information that helps people increase control of their lives by seizing control of their income is invaluable. I was aware of, but not familiar with Fiverr. Thanks for the great article!
