If you have a blog, you know how difficult it’s to monetize it. You have probably tried various monetization techniques like displaying ads or using affiliate links on your site. These techniques work but don’t make much money when you are just starting out as you don’t get much traffic.
Hopefully there exist other monetization techniques.
One of them requires very little time to set up (about 30 minutes) and will add a few hundreds dollars to your bank account every month.
Can you guess what it is?
Well I’ll tell you, it’s through selling sponsorship to your newsletter
How does it work?
To understand how this kind of sponsorship works, you need to take a look at what podcasters systematically do in their show.
Every time you listen to a podcast, you hear things like:
“This show is brought to you by…”
“We want to thank our sponsors…”
Sponsorship is what most podcasters use to monetize their show. That’s how they make thousands of dollar every month.
If you have a newsletter you can do the same thing and get companies to pay you through sponsorship. You just have to mention the company in a paragraph at the end or at the beginning of your email newsletter and they will pay you for it.
Now let’s take a look at how to do it exactly.
Step-by-step process to get companies to sponsor your newsletter
Step 1: Make sure to have at least 1,000 subscribers
Some bloggers manage to get sponsorship with a few hundreds subscribers but it’s usually easier to get sponsored when you have at least 1,000 subscribers
Step 2: Find companies that will sponsor your newsletter
There are various ways to find sponsors for your newsletter.
Way #1: Make a quick research on Google and find companies that already advertise.
So let’s say you have a blog about healthy food, you could write “buy healthy food” on Google to find companies that will pay you to get featured in your newsletter.
Way #2: Go to blogs and websites in your niche market and look at what advertising banners they display.
Way #3: Listen to podcasts in your niche and pay attention to the sponsors they mention in their show
Step 3: Reach out to companies by email
It’s usually pretty simple to get the email address of sponsors, but just in case you don’t find it I recommend you to read the 5 little known tools and hacks to contact absolutely anyone.
Step 4: Send them an email and tell them that you are opening sponsorship slots in your newsletter
Now that you know what you have to do, I want you to find companies in your niche and contact them. It only takes about 30 min and can make you anywhere between $100 to $1,000/month (even more sometimes depending on the size of your list).
